Ms Shivanita Umapathi


Shivanita (Shiv) Umapathi is a PhD Student at SA Water Centre for Water Management and Reuse (CWMR) in the School of Natural and Built Environments (NBE), University of South Australia (UniSA). She holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering (Hons.) from Griffith University in Brisbane. Previously based in Brisbane, Shiv was chosen to be mentored at Stanwell Corporation Ltd. to study aspects of coal-combustion by-products reuse, including treatment of wastewater. Subsequently, Shiv worked as a Project Engineer for a local council (Gold Coast City) followed by the CSIRO Land and Water Division, Brisbane. During her employment with the CSIRO, she investigated problems related to various aspects of decentralized rainwater & wastewater treatment and reuse systems in urban settings. Following her experience in water resources management in Queensland, Shiv has now moved to Adelaide to embark on her PhD research involving the study of a futuristic residential eco development with strong sustainability principles, focussing on the development’s monitored usage of multiple water sources that meet its daily water needs.
