David Syme Research Prize – 2013

08/11/2013

The 2013 University of Melbourne’s David Syme Research Prize is now open for applications. The annual prize was first awarded in 1906 and is one of the most prestigious awards made by the Faculty of Science.

An information sheet and application form are available on the University of Melbourne Faculty of Science website by searching under ‘David Syme’ at http://www.science.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships

Summary details are:

  • The value of the 2013 prize is approximately $7,000 plus a bronze medallion
  • The prize rewards the best original research work in Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Geology
  • Research must have been produced in Australia during the two years preceding the closing date
  • Preference will be given to work of value to the industrial and commercial interests of Australia
  • Candidates for the prize must have spent a minimum of five full years out of the last seven years in Australia
  • Professors are not eligible to apply; researchers outside universities who have attained a level of seniority comparable to a university professor (LEVEL E) are not eligible to apply
  • Early career researchers or researchers with interrupted careers who can display research excellence in the preceding two years are welcome to apply but no special consideration will be granted to an applicant because of a relatively short research career.

Closing date is Monday 16 December 2013.
