Change in venue: Seminar by Dr Jim Ascough form the US Department of Agriculture - From Small Models to Big Data

Note that the lecture is now being held at the Benham Lecture Theatre and not the Horace Lamb Lecture Theatre. 

Dr Jim Ascough, from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is visiting the University of Adelaide during July and August. As part of this visit, Dr Ascough will be presenting a seminar on USDA’s research on modelling, optimisation, data acquisition and cloud computing in the agricultural sector.

From Small Models to Big Data: A Long-Term Perspective on the Past, Present, and Future of USDA-Agricultural Research Service Model Development Activities

Abstract:
The USDA-Agricultural Research Service (ARS) has a well-recognized history of developing simulation models, decision support systems (DSS), and other tools such as web-based information systems. This presentation provides an overview of key ARS model/DSS technology developments, highlights notable successes (and failures), and offers insights into current and future ARS initiatives on Big Data and cloud/high performance computing.
