Researchers from the US based Virginia Tech Center for Ecosystem Forecasting in collaboration with the University of Adelaide, University of Western Australia, and Griffith University along with water managers from the Department for Environment and Water and Murray-Darling Basin Authority, visited the CLLMM Research Centre drawing an audience of 80 attendees, including businesses, students and Ngarrindjeri Rangers.
Discussions focused on forecasting water temperature, water salinity, algal blooms and depth and how this information could be readily accessed to aid decision making around Lake Alexandrina. The Virginia research team have now returned home to further develop the modelling based on feedback they received.
CLLMM Research Centre Summer Series of Science kicks off this week with a local Q & A panel discussion on climate change in the CLLMM Region on Friday 29 November. Staff from the Alexandrina Council, Coorong District Council, Hills and Fleurieu, Murraylands, Riverland and Limestone Coast Landscape Boards and Department for Environment and Water. They will be presenting on their organisations plans and policies around the challenges climate change poses to the region
Spotlight Speaker, Tim Jarvis AM will give an inspirational presentation on Friday 6 December.
Tim is an environmental scientist and adventurer committed to finding pragmatic solutions to major environmental issues related to climate change and biodiversity loss.
Tim is also well known for his historically authentic recreations of the Antarctic survival journeys of Sir Douglas Mawson and Sir Ernest Shackleton, Tim is founder of The Fork tree Project, a native revegetation project on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, Global Ambassador and Governor of environmental NGO WWF, Southern Ocean Ambassador to Save Our Marine Life and a Vice President of Flora and Fauna International. He received the Order of Australia in 2010 for services to the environment, community and exploration and has been named South Australia’s Australian of the Year 2024 and has recently been appointed Professor of Leadership Practice at Edith Cowan University.
