As many of you know, the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth (CLLMM) Research Centre was established through the Goyder Institute to strengthen the connection between science, First Nations, community and decision-making in this unique region. With the Centre now edging towards its first tranche of research results, its impact is already being felt across the region.
The Centre’s latest newsletter has just been released, offering a glimpse into activities now in full swing. This month, Senator Andrew McLachlan CSC, Angie Bell MP, David Basham MP, and Andrew MacDonald, CEO of Alexandrina Council, visited the Centre to see first-hand how the Science Program is progressing and how collaborative research is being driven by local communities and First Nations.
The devastating algal bloom crisis continues to affect the CLLMM region, with many community members and First Nations peoples voicing their concerns. In response, the Centre is hosting a Community Forum: Stronger Together – Navigating Environmental Challenges Ahead on Friday 5 September. More details are available in the news article below.
It is encouraging to see how far the CLLMM Research Centre has come and is bringing together researchers, First Nations, local communities and decision-makers to create knowledge that makes a real difference on the ground. The environmental challenges we face in the context of climate change are complex and ongoing and it will take collaboration, knowledge-sharing and collective action to ensure a resilient future for the region.
