Following an invitation from the Productivity Commission, the Goyder Institute contributed to the National Water Reform 2026 Inquiry, sharing expertise on the challenges and opportunities associated with delivering sustainable water services for regional and remote communities.
The contribution builds on the Goyder Institute’s ongoing work in remote water security, including the Working Together for Better Drinking Water in the Bush forum delivered in partnership with Desert Knowledge Australia and the National Water Grid. This work has since evolved through Goyder’s involvement in the Remote Water Futures Consortium, a collaboration of research, industry and community partners focused on improving water services and clean water access in remote Australia.
The Consortium’s submission to the Productivity Commission highlights the concept of a Central Desert Living Lab in Alice Springs, designed to support innovative, place-based solutions to remote water challenges.
