The Goyder Institute for Water Research is delighted to confirm that it will be the host of the One Basin Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) Research Hub in Loxton, South Australia.
The One Basin CRC is a collaboration of 85 partner organisations working on developing policy, technical and financial solutions to support and reduce exposure to climate, water and environmental threats in the Murray-Darling Basin. The CRC was announced by the Australian Government in May 2022 and has since been working to co-design a broad research program aimed at achieving a more productive, resilient and sustainable Murray-Darling Basin.
The CRC has four Regional Hubs located within the Basin at Loxton (SA), Mildura (VIC), Griffith (NSW) and Goondiwindi (QLD), facilitating local industry, First Nations and community involvement in the priorities and activities of the CRC.
Dr Alec Rolston, Director of the Goyder Institute for Water Research said “I’m delighted to confirm that the Goyder Institute will be the administrative host of the One Basin CRC Research Hub at Loxton. This provides an opportunity for the Institute to further engage with the activities of the CRC within the Riverland region and beyond, and creates linkages throughout the Lower River Murray in South Australia through connectivity with the Institute’s Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Research Centre based in Goolwa.”
Kym Walton, Regional Hub Manager at the Loxton Hub said “The One Basin CRC is very excited to be working with the Goyder Institute to deliver the Loxton Regional Hub, and we also thank PIRSA, also a One Basin CRC partner, for the provision of the physical space at the Loxton Research Centre. By working in partnership with the Goyder Institute, local industry, First Nations and community, as well as other CRC partners, we will deliver critical research and develop important knowledge for the Murray Darling Basin from the Riverland region to inform water resources management, and environmental and industry decision making.”
The Goyder Institute is a Tier One partner of the CRC, and four of the Institute’s five partners are also partners in the CRC.
The goals of both the CRC and the Goyder Institute are closely aligned, and the partnership at Loxton will reinforce the importance of locally-led initiatives informing decision making and policy in an economically important region for South Australia and the Murray-Darling Basin.
