Research Advisory Committee update

The strength of the Institute’s research program is built on the dedication of those who guide it, and we are pleased to acknowledge recent changes within the Research Advisory Committee (RAC).

We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Prof Lin Crase and Prof Justin Brooks, who have concluded their term on the Research Advisory Committee (RAC). Their insight, commitment, and steady contribution have helped shape the Institute’s direction and strengthened our research program over many years. We warmly acknowledge their service and wish them well in their future endeavours.

At the same time, the RAC is pleased to welcome A Prof Ben van den Akker to the Committee. Ben joins us following his transition from the Institute’s Management Board, a move aligned with the establishment of the newly merged Adelaide University, which brings together the strengths of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. We also note that Prof Bronwyn Gillanders will continue on the Management Board, now representing Adelaide University following the transition from her previous University of Adelaide role.

Ben brings a wealth of expertise specialising in improving the technical, economic, and environmental performance of wastewater treatment and water recycling systems, with a strong focus on public‑health‑driven water quality and the integration of microbiology, chemistry, and applied engineering. He also has a deep understanding of the Institute and the water research landscape across South Australia. His perspective will be invaluable as the RAC continues to guide and support high-impact research across the state.

We look forward to working with Ben in this new role and thank all members, past and present for their ongoing commitment to advancing research excellence.
