The Goyder Institute for Water Research is pleased to welcome the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) as a partner organisation in the Institute’s fourth term. The addition of SARDI strengthens the Goyder Institute’s collaborative partnership model, bringing together South Australia’s leading research organisations, government agencies and end users to deliver the knowledge needed for informed water management and policy decisions.
SARDI has been a long-standing collaborator in Goyder Institute projects, bringing expertise in fisheries, aquatic ecology, climate adaptation, environmental monitoring and natural resource management. SARDI researchers have played key roles in a number of Goyder-supported initiatives, including recent work through the Healthy Coorong, Healthy Basin projects, Assessing the environmental response to the 2022-2023 River Murray Flood project, and the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth (CLLMM) Research Centre, helping to generate practical knowledge that supports the sustainable management of South Australia’s water-dependent environments.
Under the new partnership arrangements, Professor Mike Steer will represent SARDI on the Goyder Institute Management Board, while Associate Professor Qifeng Ye and Professor Paul Petrie will join the Research Advisory Committee (RAC). Together, they bring extensive expertise spanning fisheries science, aquatic ecosystems, climate resilience, agricultural systems and applied research.
Goyder Institute Director Dr Alec Rolston welcomed the new partnership.
“We are delighted to formally welcome SARDI into the Goyder partnership, ” Dr Rolston said. “SARDI has been an important collaborator in many of our projects over the years, and their transition to a formal partner reflects the value they bring to the Institute. “Their scientific expertise, strong industry connections and focus on delivering applied outcomes will help ensure our research continues to support informed decision-making across South Australia.”
Professor Steer said the partnership would build on the long-standing relationship between the organisations.
“The work and reputation of the Goyder Institute for Water Research are respected nationally and internationally,” Prof Steer said. “SARDI is delighted to have formalised our successful partnering with the Goyder Institute – we look forward to working together in new ways and continuing to shine a light on South Australia’s exceptional research capabilities.”
