While in Hanoi for the final leg of the Australia Awards Fellowships on Training and Capacity Building in Irrigation and Water Management, our team along with Australia Awards Fellows and representatives from the Bac Hung Hai Irrigation Company joined the international World River Run 2026, dedicating their run along the iconic Red River (Sông Hồng) to freshwater health and global collaboration.
The Red River is a true lifeblood for millions of livelihoods and farms, facing real pressures from a changing climate and growing development. Taking part in the global run was a fantastic way to highlight the vital importance of protecting these aquatic ecosystems.
It was also a wonderful reflection of the partnerships built through the Fellowship program, bringing together on-the-ground operational insights from organisations like the Bac Hung Hai Irrigation Company with dedicated ecological research.
By taking strides along the riverbanks, the group helped drive home a simple truth: our rivers are the heartbeat of our communities, and keeping them healthy takes all of us working together.
