The CLLMM Research Centre is entering an exciting new phase with approval of the Research Plan by the Department for Climate Change, Energy the Environment and Water signalling that delivery of the Science Program is officially underway. The research plan was developed through a bottom-up approach that engaged widely, with more than 1000 people providing input, to identify and prioritise research projects which were subject to evaluation by our CLLMM Research Centre Advisory Forum.
The Science Program embodies a comprehensive research agenda that aligns with the priorities of the community, First Nations, and the management needs of research users in the context of a changing climate. With a central focus on understanding the impacts of climate change and the necessary responses, we are developing projects across four key themes: Climate Adaptation, Ecosystem Services, Climate Mitigation, and Threatened Species and Biodiversity.
Currently, the Science Program includes 24 projects within these themes:
• 4 foundational scoping projects that are helping to identify research projects for key thematic areas;
• 4 flagship research projects addressing critical aspects of the impact of climate change that will guide transformative change in knowledge and understanding across the region;
• 10 research projects providing knowledge on a broad range of research topics across the
region; and
• 2 knowledge sharing and capacity building projects, including a Honours grants program that
is currently supporting five student research projects.
The Science Program serves as our roadmap for advancing knowledge and supporting climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in the CLLMM region. It is being delivered by almost 100 world-leading scientists and local stakeholders. We are also focusing on planning the next two years of our collective journey and creating opportunities for the community and First Nations to get involved with
our research initiatives.
